Blissfully free, my heart is lifted, soaring above stressed high schoolers, heads buried in books, hands cramping from over writing, and thumbs dying from PRACTICING.
Good grief...I know I'm gonna have to get freaked out again about Molly on the Shore (I play first part clarinet...if you look it up, you'll hear just what I'm facing...it's by grainger), but right now i a really happy I have a private lesson on Monday, and I have to work on my solo.
I know it's a really bad thing to think like that...it just means I have to practice Molly, two other UIL songs, a solo, and an ensemble that we haven't even chosen yet...
BUT REGION BAND IS OVER!! No more region worries until next school year!!
Ya know, I feel like band is the thing that puts the most stress on me...but I love it:)
Though I seriously think I may screw the whole band up if I don't perfect Molly...it makes me really scared...my director even said that we've been working a lot harder than last year...so that means I came in the year were supposed to be "excellent". And so...yeah...
But I'm still happy region is over. Six+ hours of sitting in a chair listening to the same four songs over and over can wear on you...
Apparently wind ensemble had an awesome conductor. Ours (you still don't know what band I made!!) was just...he did absolutely nothing special, except for having the ability to cause no one to notice him when he signals for people to stop playing...
My whole row was weird. I think the clarinets were the trashiest section in the band, no offense to the actual instrument. Once, the director said "well, I didn't think this band of misfits..." and I was like, yeah!! I totally agree!! Misfits!! And then he continued and said "...could play so well" and I was like, dude, you just made me lose some respect for you...if you're gonna use the word misfits, use it like you mean it!!
Yeah, back to the clarinet section. Half of them, well, WWAAAYYY more than half had HORRID posture.
First chair-she leaned down when she played
2- slouched back in her chair
3- somehow played his clarinet exactly vertical
4- couldn't see her. Was an Asian girl. I think I heard her during the auditions, and I'm pretty sure she didn't have horrible posture.
5- 4 and 5 were covered by my stand, so I couldn't see them. I didn't notice the eiffer either.
6- (this is the start of a new row of clarinets) you couldnt even hear. According to my mom, when he stood up to be acknowledged for his pathetic two measure solo, he looked like he had accomplished some great legendary feat...oh, and somehow he practiced his clarinet by playing with it on the left side of his legs, instead of the center...he didn't have a good sound, either
7- I think this one was a girl. At first I thought she was a guy, cuz she was wearing a baggy sweatshirt and jeans, and had really short hairstyle, so looked exactly like a boy (gangster Asian style...). Then she talked, and I was like, Whaaaa?? And I looked at her sweatshirt and it protruded a bit in the to half...so yeah...but she also wore a tux at the concert...so then I began thinking that it was a not yet hit puberty (like the old JB) guy that also had man boobs...but im going with her being a girl...
8- a guy from the same district as me. Didnt really care to see what was weird with him. Well, he's one of those "gangster" Asian clarinetists...you know, slouch while playing, wear kinda lazy looking clothes, and walk with some form of a swagger. All the guy Asian clarinetists I know look like that...really odd...and he had an airy sound...yeah...
9- at first I thought he was kinda boring, cuz I didn't see anything odd with him. But then, at the concert, I looked over, and he had this giant ring with a giant stone in the middle of it on his finger...and also some odd chain bracelet and a rubber one...and he was my last hope in salvaging the "ordinary-ness" of my row...
10- love this guy. I could go on forever with the weird things he did. He was my source of entertainment during the region clinic. He was sorta Asian gangster, but had more of a puppy dog hobo look...and he was REALLY fast. I would sit, and in the space of five minutes he would jerk forward at least twenty times to write something on his music in about three seconds, and return to his seat as if nothing had happened. One time he nearly knocked his clarinet over, and for some reason he made a little "shh" gesture. I didn't see why he would do that to me, because who would I tell? So I began wondering if he had actually meant for the shh to be for his clarinet...which, in that case, is actually weirder...and something about him and stands...really odd...he starts out each practice with his stand two inches away from him, as low as it can go. Then, later, he'll jerk forward and raise it as high as it can go, but put it at an ordinary distance away from him. Then it somehow becomes lower throughout the practice, and ends up bumping into my stand. And then our stands get stuck together and I find my stand turning several degrees and his in a different spot, and by the end of the day, the stands are in completely different positions...
11- if you cannot figure out who is in this chair, then I'm sorry, you are an idiot. You were not meant to be born this way, I know. Everyone was created to be perfect, don't be sad, it was just your fault that you couldn't figure out this chair and was called an idiot. IDIOT.
12- had bad posture, something like first chair
I didn't look at any clarinetists after twelfth chair (she was in the third row, just saying)
So, yes, my section was very odd...
I got moved from third to second part. It was nice, but I didn't get to keep the music...I kept third part, though. Hehe...I took it home the first day of the clinic, and didn't bring it back...
I'm kinda worried that they'll look at the back of my second part music and wonder why I doodled so much on the back. I'm sorry, I WAS BORED!! After, I mean....I was sitting and waiting for the other bands to finish since mine got finished twenty minutes early, so I doodled...
There was another Asian guy who's fashion really irked me. If you've ever read manga, then you'll find this style of clothes some of the guys wear, where it seems kinda girly (loose shirt with a bit of chest showing and jacket, with jeans and boots). It looks good on slim guys...but this one...had this really long face, with a big forehead, and was really short and kinda stocky. Therefore, he looked like he was gay and trying to dress like a girl instead of a cool guy...
So yeah, that was my band. I could say more, but I'll spare you...
