What?? Why am I (trying to) write a romantic segment? Cuz I wanted to write the last bit about the flowers, and I needed an intro. So...
Oh yeah, the setting is a color guard competition, in front of the gym where they actually compete and the judging takes place. Hehe...
There are two girls, "--" and "---". Just so you know...
She reached up and caressed Kieran's cheek softly, her other hand slowly turning him so that his back was facing ---. She raised herself up higher on her heels, and brought her face close to his. He leaned forward too, as she beckoned, and she whispered, close to his lips. As soon as she finished, she looked out from behind Kieran's broad shoulders and flashed a triumphant grin at ---.
From ---'s point of view, -- had just kissed Kieran. Blah blah blah blah, thoughts of betrayal, blah blah blah.
She dashed out of the school, the door slamming shut behind her. Finding her secluded corner, she quickly snapped the last dandelion's stem and began plucking it's petals off hurriedly. "He loves me. He loves me not. He loves me. He loves me not!" By this point, she was hysterical, the petals flying off the flower and twirling in a whirl storm around her, as fast as she thought the words. Maybe even faster.
Six petals were left. "He loves me. He loves me not." She kept going out of habit, although she already knew what the outcome would be. Her heart had been broken too many times to not know. "He loves me..."
Meanwhile, Kieran spun around when the sound of the door slamming echoed through the busy school. He looked past the colorful costumes and glittering flags to see --- through the glass windows. He began to push through the crowd, but a small tug on his sleeve held him back. -- stood behind him, staring deep into his eyes. What she saw was the opposite of what she hoped, and she lowered her face sadly and released her grip.
"Go after her..." she spoke the words grimly, and her smile was forced when she looked back up at him. When he didn't move immediately, her careful control vanished. "Go after her!" she screamed, her hair flying in all directions as she wrung it with her hands. -- pushed Kieran away, towards the door, towards ---.
He didn't say anything, but she could see the silent thanks in his eyes when he looked back at her. [The kindest look he has ever given me...] she thought sadly.
Racing towards the door, Kieran passed the flower shop from before. He hesitated, then grabbed a bouquet, shouting that he would pay later. By the time he reached the corner, --- was on her last petal.
"He loves me n---!" --- was startled when a bouquet of fragrant flowers were thrust into her face. Looking up, she saw a blushing Kieran, as red as the roses in his hands.
He spoke, the blush causing him to turn and hide his face behind the flowers. His message was short and simple from embarrassment. "Keep trying with these until you get the right phrase." (yeah, yeah, I really need to change this. So lame...)
--- gaped at him, and then the tears began running down her face. "Yes, yes, I will, I will!!" she flung herself onto him, crushing the flowers between them.
Kieran held the flowers out of danger, and patted her head awkwardly, but smiling all the same. "Silly, I didn't ask you anything..."
Awwww, my dear friend! That was sweet. Although, I was under the impression that Keiran was a girl's name? Maybe not.
